Network Monitoring using Strategically Placed PMUs

In electrical power engineering, the accuracy of the state estimation of Phasor angle can be improved by the use of Phasor measurement units (PMUs). Traditionally, voltage phase angles are determined by state estimation. This paper is focused on the possible benefits of state estimation of using synchronized Phasor measurements to improve the measurement redundancy. Putting PMU at every bus is very costly solution. Here in this paper different Mathematical, Heuristic & Meta heuristic methods of optimum PMU placement techniques are studied & the result of each method for IEEE-6 Bus & IEEE- bus system are compared to find out optimum numbers PMUs & their location.
